Old Cock to Crow in Lincoln

A cracking mile heritage handicap to start off the 2025 Turf Flat Season in the UK.

A maximum field of 22 runners line up this afternoon at Doncaster Racecourse.

Unexposed Younger horses have a great record in the Lincoln overall. I am keen to have a four year onside with Old Cock the selection. Trainer Ed Bethwell had a 22% winning strike rate at Doncaster in 2024. Old Cock looks nicely treated on a mark of 91.

Last season, Old Cock was very good at Ayr & Haydock while not finishing his race off at York and Pontefract. Old Cock was a big immature horse that needed time between his races. The winter off should have seen him develop more into his big frame. A high draw in stall 14 looks a positive as he can take a lead from Midnight Gun drawn next door.

Toimy Son will love the likely strong pace in front of him from a positive high draw in stall 18. He is rated 9lbs higher than when he won the Goodwood mile so well last summer. Trainer David Menuiser has booked 5lb claimer Warren Fentiman. It leaves Toimy Son not badly treated in this race on good to soft ground.

Toimy Son proved he can run well on such ground when a staying on fourth behind Godwinson at Goodwood in late August 2024. He meets Godwinson on 6lbs better terms off a much better draw. Toimy Son ran a cracker in the Cambridgeshire at Newmarket on soft ground too! The faster they go up front the better the chance for Toimy Son who goes well in these big field heritage handicaps.
