Portland Handicap Preview..

Hi Reader

We look at the Portland Heritage Handicap at Doncaster.

The race was established in 1855, and for a period it was known as the Portland Plate. The original course started opposite a coaching inn called Red House, and it featured a left-handed bend at about halfway. The race was later transferred to a straight course.

The Portland Handicap is held during Doncaster's four-day St. Leger Festival, and it is currently staged on the final day, the same day as the St Leger Stakes.

Rosario to Shine in Portland Handicap

The Portland Handicap has a maximum field of twenty two runners declared.

A turf sprint race run over five and a half furlongs at Doncaster.

Roger Teal is underestimated as a trainer, but we know he is a good one. Dancing Gemini is his stable star this year while Rosario is in his top five. Rosario won over five furlongs at Goodwood in May with the Beverley Bullet winner, Shagraan back in third place.

Rosario won when rated 94 and went up to 96 finding life tough in good races. The handicapper has relented, and he has dropped down to a mark of 91. That would be a concern normally, but I can tell you he has run well in his last two races when blowing the start. Tom Marquand is a great jockey booking and if he gets off well, I can see him going close with the distance and ground to suit.

Jakajaro has been knocking on the door with placed efforts at Goodwood and Ascot. He has been running well and did finish third in the Steward Cup at Goodwood which is top class form. This intermediate trip on easier ground couple proves the key to getting his head back in front.

Jamie Spencer is back on top, so we know what to expect! A late surge over the final furlong to try and reel in the leaders. Put a small saver on the four-year-old Air Force One who remains a well handicapped sprinter.

Doncaster 2:25
0.5 point each way
Rosario 9/1 Bet365 & Boylesports, 6 places.

0.5 point each way Jakajaro 10/1 Bet365 6 places else 11/1 Unibet, 5 places.

Best of Luck,

Nicky

Hi Reader The Ebor Handicap is named after the shortened form of Eboracum, the Roman name for York. It was first run in 1843, and it was originally known as the Great Ebor Handicap. The race was introduced by John Orton, a newly appointed Clerk of the Course at York. It was initially contested over 2 miles, but its distance was later cut by 2 furlongs. The race is now held on the final day of York's four-day Ebor Festival meeting, and it is the most valuable flat handicap in Europe. Big...
