Grand Sefton Handicap Chase Preview..

Hi Reader

The Grand Sefton Handicap Chase is a National Hunt steeplechase in Great Britain which is open to horses aged six years or older. It is run at Aintree over a distance of about 2 miles and 5 furlongs, and during its running there are eighteen fences to be jumped. The race is scheduled to take place in November.

It was first run over a one hundred year period from 1865 to 1965 as part of Aintree's autumn meeting and was run over a distance of just under three miles. Originally, the Grand Sefton was one of the most important events of the autumn, but after the Second World War its popularity waned as Aintree's fortunes foundered.

In 2003, the race was revived and run on the first day of the November Becher Meeting and run over the same fences as Aintree's most famous race, the Grand National. Prior to 2021 the race was run at Aintree's meeting on the first Saturday in December.

Grand Sefton Plan for Gaboriot

The Grand Sefton is always a joy to watch, seeing a big field of horses tackle the grand national fences.

There are seventeen runners today with over two thirds of the runners having their first run of the season.

This race suits Gaboriot well and surely, he will be primed for a massive run. He stayed on for third place last year when beaten by the re-opposing winner King Turgeon and second placed Vintage Fizz. The ground is softer this year which is a help to Gaboriot as is King Turgeon rated twelve pounds higher. Gaboriot is three pounds lower this year, just the national fences well, carries a good low weight and goes well fresh. Blinkers are back on having last been used in 2023.

Colonel Harry and Johnnywho have the potential to be the proverbial graded horse in a handicap. Dan Skelton and his brother Harry are banging in the winners so maybe our main danger could prove to be Jet Plane.

Aintree 2:40

1 point each way Gaboriot 12/1 William Hill (1/4 place odds) else 12/1 Bet365 & Unibet, 5 places.

Best of Luck,

Nicky
