Hi Reader
The final day of the UK Jumps season.
Well done to the champion jockeys, especially Sean Bowen. However, the trainers championship remains in play between Dan Skelton and Willie Mullins. It will take a miracle for Dan Skelton to hold on against the mighty raiding Willie Mullins squad! Enjoy an exciting end of season finale at Sandow this afternoon.
Big Saturday Race Preview And Tips
All our Big Saturday Race Previews & Tips are published online at https://lp.betalchemist.com/
Following the result of the race, there are made availble to the public. Too late to back the winner or change the result at that time!
Ok, let's crack on with today's preview and tips.
Willie Mullins Needs Hero to win Bet365 Gold Cup
Willie Mullins is very clever and ruthless like all the top sportsmen.
He dominates the bet365 Gold Cup providing ten of the twenty four runners. However, his trump card is running Irish Gold Cup runner who is rated 168. Grangeclare West running off such a high mark ensures that eleven of the runners are out of the handicap proper! For example, Knockmore carries 10-2 today but really should be carrying 15lbs less and racing off 9-1! Just a legal way to maximise your advantage of having a huge stable full of top class horses.
Personally, I do hope Willie Mullins wins back to back UK trainers championships. He is a rare and special trainer who is defying his age of 68 to get bigger and better every season.
High Class Hero will love the spring ground at Sandown. He is the choice of Paul Townend who is Willie’s number one stable jockey. This horse ran up a winning sequence of four in a row as a novice hurdler. The ground was too soft in the Albert Bartlett hurdle however he bounced back to finish second to stablemate Dancing City in a three-mile grade 1 novice hurdle at the 2024 Punchestown Festival.
Willie has been campaigned High Class Hero patiently over fences this season. The horse was second on his first run over fences at Punchestown on New Years Eve. In February, he jumped well to win his beginners chase cosily from Loughglynn. Last time out, he ran a cracker to finish a close second to a speedier type in Common Practice in a Grade 3 2m5f race at Thurles. That race was as sharp as High Class Hero would like it. This horse is crying out for three miles plus and gets his chance here. Willie has kept half the field out of the handicap proper by running top weight and 168 rated Grangeclare West. It leaves High Class Hero carrying 10-8 and he has a favourites chance for sure.
Venetia Williams enjoyed a great start to the season wining big Saturday races for fun in December, January and February. The wheels fell off thereafter with only one winner in March and the same this month so far. We take a chance that Victtorino will run his race having only had four races this season. Forget his run at Cheltenham in the Ultima Handicap Chase as this horse doesn’t like running at Cheltenham.
Victtorino stayed on strongly at the end of the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury in November. That run screamed this horse wants marathon trips however Venetia knew better! She ran him twice at Ascot over three miles to win in premier handicap chases. Amazingly, the handicapper has him rated 148 which is only two pounds higher than his last winning mark. Victorrino handicaps good ground and goes well running right-handed. Charlie Deutsch rides off a lovely weight of 10-8 and he should relish going out in trip to three and a half miles.
Sandown 4:10
0.5 point each way High class Hero 9/2 William Hill & Betfred, 5 places.
0.5 point each way Victtorino 14/1 Paddy Power 6 places else 14/1 Boylesports, 5 places.
Best of Luck,
Nicky
