Lion to Roar in International Handicap

A big field of twenty two runners line up to win the Ascot International Stakes.

It's the usual competitive Ascot handicap run over seven furlongs on the straight course.

The International is a cracking race and no different this year with 22 runners. There doesn’t look to be huge pace in this renewal, and the jockeys will not want to get too far behind. Kodi Lion could take advantage from a steady run seven furlongs following four good runs over six furlongs.

Kodi Lion finished runner up behind Get It here over six furlongs in May. Get It went on to win the Wokingham Stakes so that is strong form. Kodi Lion won over seven furlongs here a year ago. He will enjoy the good ground which he prefers to good to firm.

David O’Meara has four runners, and preference is for the 4yo Sword. I think this horse will enjoy the stiff finish at Ascot. He wasn’t knocked about when not beaten far in seventh place at York last time out. Sword won at Leicester over seven furlongs in June off a three-pound lower mark.

Sword looks a well handicapped horse off 85 with a feather weight of 8-6 to carry. Mark Winn comes in for the ride with a high draw in stall 22 looking favourable. Sword is worth backing at a big price with race conditions to suit.

Ascot 3:00

0.5 point each way Kodi Lion 14/1 Betway 6 places else 14/1 generally, 5 places.

0.5 point each way Sword 16/1 Bet365 & Betway, 6 places.

Best of Luck,

Nicky

The Portland Handicap is held during Doncaster's four-day St. Leger Festival, and it is currently staged on the final day, the same day as the St Leger Stakes. Big...
