Grand National Stamina Test to Suit Beauport

This historic race is watched by millions all over the world who support the horse drawn in their local annual sweepstake. It's great fun with the National a race to be enjoyed by young and old. Grand National Day is the biggest betting day of the year.

A maximum field of 34 runners line up this afternoon in the Aintree Grand National.

Beauport can strike a blow for UK trainers against the Irish who have dominated this race in recent years. Beauport has been prepared for this race since bolting up at Ascot in November over 3m5.5f on good ground. He is a proven stayer who remains unexposed off a career high mark of 156. Last season he won the Midlands National over 4m2f on heavy ground, so stamina is proven.

This season he is showing improved form on good ground. Nigel Twiston-Davies protected his mark with two runs over hurdles at Grade 1 and Grade 2 level since Ascot. Beauport showed his class to place in both of those top hurdle races. A weight of 11-1 looks good and this proven stayer should go close with a clear round and luck in running.

Vanillier has really turned a corner since the application of blinkers. He bolted up at Punchestown over banks on heavy ground which is not his favourite surface. In the Cross-Country race at the Cheltenham Festival, he got off to a great start under Sean Flanagan. Leading over the third fence Sean almost took the wrong course resulting in Vanillier going from first to last place! It was a credit to the horse that he finished so strongly up the hill looking in need of further.

We know Vanillier is a dour stayer as he galloped on through beaten horses to place second behind Corach Rambler in the 2023 National. I think the blinkers should allow Vanillier to travel better and stay nearer the front end if that is the plan. A mark of 147 is fine and the spring ground is like what it was back in 2023. Iroko is the horse I'd be most afraid of as he could be well ahead of his current mark.

The two horses that could be well ahead of the handicapper are the seven year old Iroko and Fusil Raffles. We had Fusil Raffles on side when he won the Irish National in 2024. I just feel the ground might be too lively for the son of Martaline.

Aintree 4:00

0.5 point each way Beauport 22/1 Betfred 7 places else 22/1 generally, 6 places.

0.5 point each way Vanillier 14/1 Betfred 7 places else 14/1 generally, 6 places.

Best of Luck,

Nicky

Hi Reader We switch to the flat for the Lincoln Heritage Handicap at Doncaster today. Next weekend it's the Aintree Grand National! Crazierthandaisy was a late non-runner last Saturday. It left a gap and best going forward to select two runners against the field in the big race on Saturdays. Hi Reader The Cheltenham Festival is done and dusted (another profitable one). We swiftly move onto the Midlands Grand National. It's hard to believe that the flat returns on Sunday with the Irish Lincolnshire at the Curragh racecourse! This Saturday, we take aim at the Midlands Grand National which has attracted a field of 17 runners. Hopefully, we enjoy better luck as Wreckless Eric was a very unlucky loser in the Imperial Cup last weekend at Sandown. Big Saturday Race Preview And Tips All...
