Wood Ready to Fire In Great St Wilfrid Handicap

A field of seventeen runners line up for the 2025 Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon racecourse.

This race was a much clasier race a few years ago with horses rated in the 90's guaranteed a run. That was only right for such a prestigious and valuable race. Today, there is five runners rated 80 lining up with Rock Opera a pound out of the handicap proper.

Maybe it's due to been so close to the Ebor Festival but surely this race should attract more horses that ran in the Stewards Cup at the Goodwood Festival. Anyways, enough of my rambling and let's try and bag a winner.

Grant Wood might be drawn well in stall two as the likely pace setting Intervention is drawn alongside in stall one. Grant Wood won the Silver Handicap Trophy on this card last year and looks to be primed for a big shot at winning the Great St Wilfrid handicap this time round.

Grand Wood finished second twice on the all-weather in the spring before freshened up following a poor run at Haydock in late May. I thought he was given an easy comeback run over course and distance twelve days go to peak for this race. He is well treated on a mark of 84 with Aiden Brookes claiming three pounds.

Ripon 3:20

0.5 point each way Grant Wood 11/1 Bet365 else 10/1 William Hill, Paddy Power, Betway & Unibet, 5 places.

Best of Luck,

Nicky

Hi Reader A massive 28 runner field lines up in the 2025 Stewards' Cup on the final day of the Goodwood Festival. For several years in the 1830s the senior steward at Goodwood presented an annual cup to the winner of any race of his choosing. The choice varied each year, and the trophy was awarded for events with distances of up to 1½ miles. A perpetual race for the Stewards' Cup over a sprint distance of 6 furlongs was conceived by Lord George Bentinck in late 1839, and the inaugural running...
