BetMGM Challenge Cup (Heritage Handicap) Preview..

Hi Reader

Ascot hosts a premier raceday along with Newmarket today.

The better action takes place at Ascot where the ground has been softenend by overnight rain. When it comes to Ascot there is a strong case supporting the "horses for courses" proverb.

Ok, let's crack on with today's preview and tips.

The Mouse Ran Up the Clock

A maximum field of eighteen runners declared for this valuable heritage handicap. The stiff seven furlongs will take even more stamina after the recent rain. It could be difficult to make up ground if drifting too far back on soft ground.

Hickory loves it at Ascot and won the Victoria Cup over course and distance back in May. He has held his form well throughout the summer. Hickory looked better than ever when winning here over seven on soft ground last month. The second Fondo Blanco franked that form massively with a clear win last weekend at Haydock over a mile.

Hickory has proved he can handle soft ground and loves these strongly run big field handicaps on the straight course at Ascot. Seven furlongs is his best distance, and he should go well again off a small rise of three pounds for his latest win.

A tricky race with a couple of these best over further. The rain softened ground will help the milers. As is usual course form is massive at Ascot and Arkadian Thunder finish a good second to Never So Brave in the Buckingham Palace Stakes in June. He is back down to the same mark of 95 as he ran in the Royal Meeting.

Arkadian Thunder met trouble in running when cruising at Newbury two runs ago. He was left with too much to do at Newcastle, and it could well be that this race has been the targeted by trainer, David O’Meara.

Ascot 3:35

0.5 point each way Hickory 5/1 Skybet 6 places else 11/2 Paddy Power & Bet365, 5 places.

0.5 point each way Arkadian Thunder 10/1 Skybet 6 places else 12/1 Bet365 & William Hill, 5 places.

Best of Luck,

Nicky

Hi Reader A welcome change from the flat to the jumps this Saturday. It has been a tough flat campaign in 2025 with a lack of Big Handicap winners. The aim is to win it all back over the course of the jumps season. That will include access to all tips for some of the major festivals until we get back into profit. Hopefully, that seems fair going forward into the winter and 2026. Big Saturday Race Preview And Tips All our Big Saturday Race Previews & Tips are published online at...
