William Hill Premier Handicap Hurdle Preview..

Hi Reader

The William Hill Hurdle is a Premier Handicap National Hunt hurdle race in Great Britain which is open to horses aged four years or older. It is run at Newbury over a distance of about 2 miles and ½ furlong, and during its running there are eight hurdles to be jumped. It is a handicap race, and it is scheduled to take place each year in February. It currently has a maximum field of 24 runners.

The event was established in 1963, and the inaugural running took place at Aintree. The race was originally sponsored by Schweppes, and it was known as the Schweppes Gold Trophy. Ryan Price won the first two runnings with Rosyth and trained four of the first five winners of the race. After Rosyth's second win, following four unplaced efforts in between, his jockey was suspended for six weeks and his trainer warned off. More controversy for Price and the Schweppes followed in 1967 when Hill House tested positive for a banned drug. However it was later shown that Hill House had manufactured his own cortisol.

All In You Set For William Hill Hurdle

There are sixteen runners declared for the William Hill Premier Handicap Hurdle. William Hill took over sponsorship of this premier handicap hurdle from Betfair last year.

It will be heavy ground but loose so I think both our selections will handle the ground fine.

Warren Greatrex is enjoying a great season with an impressive win strike rate of 23 per cent. He has touted this race for All In You since that horse bolted up at Sandown. All In You settled well out the back and showed his class to quicken past the full field to win nicely. He just failed to come from last to first at Ascot over short of two miles in December. Let It Rain was third that day and is a big danger if handling the heavy ground. However, this long straight at Newbury is ideal for the racing style of All In You. He ran through the line strongly on both runs this season and looks sure to stay the extra half furlong at Newbury fine.

Heavy ground could see an upset and Wreckless Eric could well bounce back. He hasn’t really had his conditions this season so far with the ground too quick at Kempton in the Lanzarote hurdle. We were on Wreckless Eric when he was an unlucky loser in the Imperial Cup at Sandown last March. Kielan Woods was checked behind horses at the final hurdle before powering home but all too late to catch Go Dante. Wreckless Eric is rated a pound lower off 126 with Kielan Woods retained rider for The Megsons. Hopefully, Jonjo & Alan O’Neill have him primed for this race which is more valuable than the upcoming Imperial Cup!

Newbury 3:20

0.5 point each way All In You 7/1 generally, 5 places.

0.5 point each way Wreckless Eric 25/1 Paddy Power, Bet365 & Skybet, 5 places.

Best of Luck,

Nicky
