bet365 Morebattle Hurdle Preview..

Hi Reader

The Morebattle Hurdle is a Class 2 hurdle race open to horses aged four years or older. It is run usually run in early March at Kelso Racecourse in the Scottish Borders over a distance of 2 miles and 51 yards; there are eight hurdles to be jumped.

Previously a handicap race, it was first run as a conditions contest in 1984. Jinxy Jack won four consecutive runnings of the race from 1990 to 1993 and went on to finish third in the 1994 renewal named in his honour. The 2010 running saw pre-race Champion Hurdle favourite Zaynar, trained by Nicky Henderson, beaten at starting odds of fourteen-to-one on, in one of the shortest-price upsets ever in British horse racing. The race reverted to handicap status in 2021.

Morebattle Hurdle Spectacular Sunrise

A big field of seveteen runners are declared to run in the Morebattle hurdle. That is just one short of the maximum and great to see a handicap almost full.

We back two horses that have lots of upside and look to have been laid out for this race.

The Twiston-Davies have made no secret that this race has been the main target for Spectacularsunrise. His owner is Scottish and we can ignore his run at Windsor which is a very sharp racecourse.

Course form at Kelso is important for this race. Spectacularsunrise bolted up here in December over two miles when ridden by Jamie Brace. He backed up that win with a solid second to the Mossy Fen Road at Chepstow. The good to soft ground is fine and Toby McCain-Mitchell rides claiming five pounds. This horse is unexposed at six years old and five runs over hurdles.

Dedicated Hero reverts to hurdling following two runs over fences. He jumped into the back of Intense Approach on the landing side of the first fence at Musselburgh, giving his jockey no chance. He has good form over hurdles from last season. He won his maiden here on soft ground as well as a novice grade 2 at Haydock.

The handicapper had him rated 130 at the start of this season. A down the field run in the Greatwood hurdle has seen his mark tumble down to 123. That looks lovely and in first time pieces he as a strong chance with the stiff two miles at Kelso ideal.

Kelso 2:55

0.5 point each way Dedicated Hero 9/1 Bet365 & Paddy Power, 5 places.

0.5 point each way Spectacularsunrise 5/1 Bet365 & Betvictor, 5 places.

Best of Luck,

Nicky
